If you may act now or cannot stay safe, contact your local emergency services right now. Paluma is an AI character service. It is not a crisis line, a medical or mental health service, or a substitute for a real person or a licensed professional.
Paluma is 18+
Paluma is built for adults. You must be at least 18 to use it. See our Terms of Service and Content Policy.
You will always know you are talking to AI
Every conversation opens with a clear, app-owned notice that the character is AI, not a real person, and that Paluma cannot replace emergency or professional support. If a conversation with one character continues for several hours, the notice repeats roughly every three hours so it stays visible during a long session, not just at the start. This notice comes from Paluma itself, appears outside the character’s own speech, and cannot be turned off or argued away inside the roleplay.
How Paluma responds to real distress
Paluma tries to tell the difference between a real expression of distress and ordinary fiction, such as a character in peril, a past experience someone is describing, or a quoted line of dialogue. When a message looks like a real person expressing current suicidal thoughts or an inability to stay safe, Paluma shows an app-owned support card with crisis resources, in addition to and separate from anything the character itself says. This is not limited to a specific phrase or command; you do not need to break character or say anything special to trigger it.
Separately, Paluma will not generate instructions for self-harm even if no real distress is detected in the request.
No automated system is perfect. Paluma’s detection can miss a real request for help, and it can occasionally show a support card during an ordinary fictional scene. If Paluma gets this wrong for you, please tell us at support@palumachat.com.
We do not send the content of a distress message, or any label inferring your mental health, to advertising or product analytics. We keep only an aggregate, non-identifying count of how often the support card is shown, so we can confirm the feature is working.
Crisis resources
These entries are reviewed against an official source as of 9 September 2026 and match what the app itself shows. This is not an exhaustive list of every country.
| Country | Service | Contact | Available |
|---|---|---|---|
| United States | 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline | Call or text 988 | 24/7 |
| Canada | 9-8-8 Suicide Crisis Helpline | Call or text 9-8-8 | 24/7, English and French |
| United Kingdom | Samaritans | Call 116 123 | Free, 24/7 |
| India | Tele-MANAS | Call 14416 | Toll-free, 24/7 |
| Australia | Lifeline | Call 13 11 14 | 24/7 |
Outside these countries, use Find A Helpline, a directory of verified helplines in 150+ countries maintained by the International Association for Suicide Prevention. We do not ask for or use your precise location to choose a resource; the app lets you pick your own country.
Reporting a conversation, character, or user
You can report an individual chat message, a character, a creator’s profile, or a generated image directly from the app, and you can block a creator so their characters stop reaching you. Reports go to a review queue and are handled by a person, not only a filter. See our Community Guidelines for how enforcement works, and our Content Policy for what is not allowed, including an absolute prohibition on any sexual or romantic content involving a minor.
Concerns about a child’s safety, including anything that should be referred to authorities: email support@palumachat.com. We treat these as a priority.
Changes
We will keep this page and the app’s crisis-resource catalog in step, and review the listed sources periodically. We’ll update the “last updated” date above when we do.
