This policy defines what content is permitted on Paluma. It applies to everything published on the platform, including characters, personas, images, and profiles, and to AI-generated output. The Community Guidelines cover behaviour and enforcement; this page is the content standard itself.
Paluma is an 18+, public-safe platform
Paluma is for adults: you must be at least 18 to use it. Even so, at launch Paluma operates a single content standard: public-safe. In practical terms, that means content comparable to a mainstream streaming drama, not to adult media. The 18+ requirement is about who the product is for and how AI companionship is handled responsibly, not a signal that explicit content is allowed here, it is not.
We are explicit about this because we know what people expect from AI character apps. Paluma does not host NSFW content and has no plans to at launch. Soft romance, including attraction, tension, affection, and emotional intimacy, is in scope. Sexual content is not.
Prohibited content
1. Sexual content
- Explicit sexual acts, descriptions, or imagery.
- Nudity, or imagery whose primary purpose is sexual arousal.
- Characters written primarily as sexual partners or defined by sexual traits.
- Fetish content.
- Euphemism, coded language, or prompt-injection used to elicit the above.
2. Minors: absolute prohibition
Any sexual or romantic content involving a character who is a minor, is described as a minor, or is depicted as childlike, is categorically prohibited. This holds regardless of any claimed age, fictional species, or setting.
This is the one rule with no gradient and no appeal. Violations result in immediate permanent account termination and, where legally required, referral to the relevant authorities including NCMEC.
3. Real people
- No characters based on private individuals.
- No sexual or romantic content involving any real person, public or private.
- No impersonation designed to deceive, defame, or misattribute statements.
- No non-consensual intimate imagery, real or synthetic.
Public figures may appear in clearly fictional, non-defamatory, non-sexual contexts. Any real person may request removal of a character based on them.
4. Violence and dangerous content
Fictional conflict, peril, and dark themes are permitted. They are the substance of most storytelling. Not permitted:
- Gratuitous gore or torture presented for its own sake.
- Glorification of real-world violence, mass violence, or atrocities.
- Actionable instructions for weapons, explosives, or attacks.
- Terrorist or violent-extremist content, or recruitment for it.
- Content encouraging suicide, self-harm, or disordered eating, or presenting them as solutions.
Where a conversation indicates a user may be at risk of self-harm, the app surfaces crisis resources. Characters must never discourage someone from seeking real help. See our AI Safety & Crisis Support page for exactly how this works and for reviewed crisis helplines.
5. Hate
No content that dehumanises, demeans, or incites hatred against people based on race, ethnicity, national origin, caste, immigration status, religion, disability, disease status, age, sex, gender identity, or sexual orientation. No hate symbols or slurs. No characters built to embody a hate ideology.
6. Illegal and harmful activity
- Facilitating drug, weapon, or human trafficking.
- Fraud, scams, phishing, malware, or hacking instructions.
- Content designed to extract personal data, credentials, or payment details.
- Gambling facilitation, or characters posing as licensed professionals.
7. Intellectual property
Fan and canon characters are permitted at launch, subject to takedown. Do not reproduce substantial verbatim text, do not upload copyrighted images you have no right to use, and do not claim official endorsement. See DMCA / Takedown.
8. Spam and platform manipulation
No bulk low-effort publishing, keyword stuffing, engagement faking, or multiple accounts used to evade limits or enforcement.
AI-generated content
Every character reply on Paluma is generated by an AI model. It is fiction, it is frequently wrong, and it is never a substitute for professional medical, legal, financial, or psychological advice.
Images you upload are screened by an automated moderation check before they can be used; images Paluma generates for you rely on the safety behaviour built into the image-generation provider selected for that request, without a separate Paluma-run check on the output. Generated images are subject to this policy exactly as uploaded ones are, and can be reported and removed regardless of how they were created.
Automated systems are imperfect in both directions: some prohibited output will get through, and some harmless content will be blocked. Report what gets through; appeal what shouldn’t have been blocked.
How this policy is enforced
- At publish time: characters are validated and screened before they can go public.
- Automated classification: a safety model reviews published content and flags risk categories.
- User reports: anyone can report a character from its detail page.
- Human review: reports and flags are reviewed by a person before enforcement.
Enforcement actions and the appeals process are described in the Community Guidelines.
Age requirement
You must be at least 18 years old to use Paluma. See the Terms of Service.
Changes
This policy will evolve. If we ever introduce a separate content tier, it would be an opt-in, age-verified surface governed by its own policy, never a silent loosening of this one.
